Kerin Una and Danielle Zola are visionaries pioneering a new model for raising, educating and healing our children. We believe it truly takes a village and that raising children in the way our contemporary society has mapped out leads to massive overwhelm and stress that ends up dramatically wounding the whole family system. We are on a mission to bring back the village weaving indigenous wisdom with modern knowledge on the best practices for serving children and families. Our mission is to deeply connect those we serve with themselves, each other and the earth.

As Gabor Mate, reknowned physician, auther, and speaker states, “In modern society, there is a breakdown of interconnectedness and shared values that traditionally held communities together. This breakdown can contribute to a sense of alienation and disconnection eventually causing extensive mental health issues in parents as well as children.” The acceleration of the collapse of all of the systems, such as education, health care and government, has been startling. Kerin and Danielle, like many warrier mamas, have found themselves needing to create new systems and supports to raise their children in as the old ones crumble. The level of overwhelm and isolation that is felt when trying to raise children without a village, while at the same time create new systems is massive. This led us to declare: it is time to bring back the village!

Between the two of us, we have over 30 years of experience working within these systems of education, social work and library science serving our community and getting up close and personal with everything that DOESN’T work. We both attended some of the top progressive colleges of education in the Unitied States and have 3 Master’s degrees between us. This combonation of cuting edge education as well as on the ground experience gave us the courage to leap into creating Roots and Wings Village over 5 years ago. We created our village to hold our own very young children, as well as ourselves as we navigated life homeschooling as single mothers. We never imagined it could have morphed into the thriving business and community it is today!

Roots and Wings is a nature based, heart centered conscious parenting community and has served hundreds of famlies with its drop off programs for home schoolers, conscious parenting support and community ceremonies and celebrations. We have also served dozens of woman from all over the world supporting them to open their own in person communities, forest schools, homeschool centers and nature based programs.
